Moving on...

...to Wordpress!! Had you worried there!

I have decided to move the blog over to wordpress as im not really clicking with Blogger, shame as I do like the site.

The new URL is http://brokengame.wordpress.com/

See you there.

Get off your butt...

...and get started!

Thanks to Graham Linehan I found this amazing piece of inspiring audio. Its a speech by Merlin Mann where he talks about doing creative work.

I completely agree with what he says about fear being the thing that holds you back from starting something creative. I have started so many things but finished none and a large part of that is the fear of not being good enough. I need to address the fact that I'm going to suck for a good while until I learn the basics and get better. Its strange how I can use this attitude when playing games, I know I'm going to suck at a new game but eventually I'm going to get good. Same with sports, cooking, generally anything in life. But why cant I face this when I'm trying to do something creative, something I really want to do?

Very insightful, very funny and very inspiring. Give it a listen below.

The Sound of Young America

Capiche!

Godfather 2 came through the post on Thursday morning, courtesy of Swap Game. I have not played the first game so had no real expectations. I knew it was a sandbox game and you had to take and defend territories but apart from that it was all news to me.

I had no idea how addictive this title was going to be, I played it for about 9 hours on Thursday and shot through the story with some speed. You play as a newly appointed don of your own family known as Dominic.

What I really liked about this, is you recruit your own troops who all have their individual specialities. If you have to destroy some property you can either take a demolition specialist and blow the building up or take an arsonist and start lighting the place up while you smash up the goods with a baseball bat. the game gives you a few choices to do things which helps break up the monotony of taking copious amounts of territories .

The game pretty much centers around you taking the territories off of the rival families. You have to take over every territory a family owns before you can completely destroy them. You can weaken them by assassinating their made men. Doing this stops them trying to take over your territories and makes it easier when you eventually have to destroy their compound. Once you take a territory you have to appoint guards to defend it, they will not always survive on there own so you either have to go yourself or send some of your men to help defend. You can send your men to take over territories as well which can speed up the process.

If you press start you bring up the Dons View which gives you a complete overlay of the city your in showing the different territories and who owns them. This is great for deciding where and when to attack.

You get a bonus for controlling every business in one crime ring. If you control all diamond importers then you and your family get bullet proof vests. The best thing is to try and take down one ring at a time so you can use the benifits.

What surprised me so much about this game was the RPG element. Being able to control your family, upgrade them, choose their weapons, it was much more than I expected. Sure, the game is very repetitive in places but I have had great fun playing through it. I'm on the last part now and I can say for sure that I'll be playing it for a few days yet.

The worst parts of the game are the driving, you never fell like your going fast which for me is a definite drawback. The biggest glaring fault is the lack of animation for falling. If you walk off a building you just float down to the ground and stroll away. Its actually quite funny but I don't think next gen games, especially sandbox games should have such lazy errors.

If your a fan of GTA/sandbox games then you should definitely pick this up.

AFK

Hello...anyone out there?

Sorry I have been away for so long. Had some very hot weather which was great apart from the fact that it caused my PC to melt. I got it working again but I kind of broke the cycle of updating, I have to do it regularly or I just slowly forget about it. I have been playing far too many games of late which is another reason for the lack of posts. How ironic that a games blog does not get updated due to the writer playing too many games. I think I'm doing this wrong, play one then write about it. It all makes sense now.

Heres hoping I keep updating this, I may even update it later ;)

Tony Hawk RIDE

I have played the majority of the Tony Hawk games all the way back to the playstation days but the recent incarnations have been below par. Because of the drop in quality I defected to the glorious game that is Skate and Skate2. EA have staged a remarkable rebirth of the genre by completely redesigning the control method and taking the game back to its roots.

I have been intrigued to see what Activision could come up with to counter the emergence of the almighty Skate. With this in mind Activision have revealed their challenger.

A digital skateboard peripheral...

Now this 'could' be amazing but it also could be a horrible gimmicky piece of rubbish that will gather dust in your cupboard while you finish off the last few freeskate challenges on Skate2. But I admire Activision for trying something new and I for one will be first in line to pick this up and try it out.

I just hope my balance is better on this than it was on a real skateboard.

I'll post more details as they emerge because I'll be following this game like a Hawk...no pun intended.

Render to Video Beta

Bungie have gave us a nice random present today by releasing their much awaited render to video beta. Render to video allows you to render your clips on your fileshare straight to a downloadable wmv video. The beta is open to Bungie Pro subscribers and ex subscribers like myself, nice of Bungie to reward the people who subscribed back in the day when Pro was new, exciting and expensive. Rather than give you a meaty meandering explanation I'll give you the info straight from the mouth of Bungie.

Q. How do I create a video?

A. When a saved film or clip is in your File Share (or someone else's) and you want to turn it into a computer-playable video file, you can click "Render Film" on Bungie.net and it will tell you the cost in "Bungie(R) Points (tm)", based on the length of the file and the resolution you want to render to. If you have enough points, you can confirm your purchase, and a little while later your video will be available for you to view and download. Simple! (Well, simple for you. We have to deal with storing 500GB/day of new content!) There are currently two resolutions you can choose from. Standard definition is 640x360 WMV at about 1Mbps. High def is 1280x720 WMV at 6Mbps. That's full 720p resolution!

Q. How do I get Bungie Points?

A. We expect to make points available in a couple different ways: for light usage (say, one short clip a month), Bungie Pro members with active subscriptions (or, currently, beta testers as described above) will get one or more points dropped into their Bungie Pro account each month at no additional charge over the current Pro plan. You can think of a point like a rollover minute on a phone plan- you can redeem it for your short clip, or save it for a longer one. For more dedicated render users, we plan to offer a pay-as-you-go model where you can buy "point packs".

Q. How do Points work during the beta?

A. We'll start off beta users with 2 points each. For now, standard-def video will be set to cost 1 point per minute, and HD will cost 5. After we make sure that things have spun up smoothly in the SD world, we'll start topping off users' accounts to 5 points so that you can try out HD. Don't worry about saving up points right now, go ahead and use them as you get them.

Q. How do I watch my rendered videos?

A. After the video render is complete, you'll see a video player appear in the web page for your saved film. You can watch the video right there, or download the WMV to your computer. Currently, all Beta users can see the videos of other Beta users, but other users cannot. We're looking into getting enough bandwidth to enable public embedding of the player in the future.

Q. How long is the Beta?

A. We expect for the beta to run until sometime in July, and we plan that real post-beta points will start to accumulate on Bungie Day (7/7). So if you're planning to buy Bungie Pro for the video feature, mark your calendars, since that's the first date that will give you a full year of video service with your subscription!

There is more information on Bungie's news page.

I for one am very very excited by this, I was a little put off at first by the points but it makes sense now. How could Bungie cope with all the millions of Halo clips being rendered at one time, it makes sense to slow it down and deal with it in bite size chunks. I can see myself buying points packs to capture the odd full game. I don't mind giving Bungie more money as they do give us, the halo player, so much.

As for the quality? Why not have a look at a standard definition clip that I got off my fileshare and uploaded to Youtube this morning. I'm very impressed with the quality...and the skills.

The only problems with the clip is the lack of reticule. All Halo addicts know you fix this with a few clicks of the right stick but as of now there is no way of getting around this on the Render to Video. The other problem is multi angle recordings, if you capture footage with a capture card then you can record it from multi angles. There is no way to fix this with your old clips but if you plan to render a clip in the future then you could save multiple replays of the clip showing different angles and edit it together.

All in all im very excited by this and its just one more lovely gift from the beautiful girls and boys at Bungie. We <3 you...most of the time.

Assassins Creed News!!

New information and a screenshot is now up on nowgamer, found out from NowGamerDan over Twitter, nice bit of gaming news to wake up to. The bit that really got my attention was this;

“The entire game structure and its mission system/story [of Assassin's Creed] was the most central element for us to improve following the feedback on the game,” he says.

“We want [Assassin's Creed 2] to be unpredictable and full of epic moments that will immerse you into our story featuring our numerous characters and environments. We are redefining the mission gameplay structure to give gamers a more enjoyable and rewarding experience.”

Now I played and loved this game. I remember playing it for 4 hours on Christmas morning and just falling in love with the physics. I'll be first to admit that the game has many flaws which I do not have to point out but I still found this to be a great game, it was just fun.

It really makes me happy to know that they are working to make Assassins Creed II a more enjoyable experience, if they keep what made the game great fun and bolster that with a really good story then this could be one of my favourite games.

Geekdom part 1

Thought I'd show off some of my geeky horde. If I had more money I would have a hell of a lot more figures. My girlfriend has a few cool figures that I'll try and get her to show off in her blog. If she does not do it then I will because her Labyrinth figures and Enid (from the film Ghost World) doll are fucking awesome.

The Xbox Generation, I got the Bioshock Big Daddy with the Lmtd. Edition version of the game. I honestly cant describe how awesome the Gears of War figurines are, they have so much detail, would love to get the rest of them especially the nasty looking Theron Gaurd.

I have a HUGE love of Mario and especially Mario Kart, these little remote controlled karts are great fun, especially for annoying my cat. The Koopa plush is one of my favourite pieces as I pwn with Koopa in Mario Kart on the SNES.

Christmas is awesome when you have an Etsy loving girlfriend. I've had a lot of envy over the Mario Ipod case, as well as some very odd looks.

My small collection of Kevin Smith figurines which I'd love to extend one day. I'm really missing the Mallrats! Personal favourite is Willem from Mallrats as he was a very late Christmas present. My girlfriend bought it in time for xmas (don't moan I've already typed it on full twice) but it did not come until March, nice surprise.

My prize pieces are my Shaun of the Dead figurines, I really wish they brought out Zombie Ed, it would complete my collection perfectly. There's been rumblings about Spaced figures coming out, there was even drawings of them on the net somewhere, I may have to have another night of heavy research to see if their ever going to emerge.

Ill dig out all my gaming t shirts soon and show you them.

Post a comment and tell me what you have.

Where are my Friends?

Being a currently unemployed gamer I often find myself pining for a game of Halo when my friends are all at work or in bed meaning I have to go into the scary world of matchmaking on my lonesome. As you all know annoying things can happen when you don't have good team-mates to watch your back and help you in objective games. Safe to say there is more than 5 things that annoy me but I thought I'd tell you my personal gripes.

5. No Support

This one is a little petty but when your used to playing with good team-mates you know where they go and what they do so when you play by yourself its like losing a limb. You have to be extra careful to watch angles that you don't usually have to. I really suffer from this in the Pit when I setup on snipe tower, I'm so used to my team-mates calling out positions and locking down rockets that I never watch my back. There's nothing worse than being jumped by 3 guys in your own spawn.

4.Awful Hog Drivers

Ever been left in the middle of nowhere with no one to shoot at? Ever been driven straight through the front door of the base in Standoff in your nice shiny Gauss Hog? If yes then you've been at the victim of mindless hog drivers, even worse than bad gunners. Countless times I have been denied a big multi kill by the actions of a suicidal driver hoping to get a one in a million splatter.

3. Quitters

There is quite a few variations of quitters and every one of them pisses me off. Either they quit out because their favourite map gets vetoed or they leave as soon as you go a flag score down usually guaranteeing your imminent defeat. I don't get why they don't just play it out? If your gonna lose then just take it like a Spartan, by quitting out your just losing Exp so surely a defeat is better than losing your hard earned Exp? Personally some of the best games I have ever played have been epic comebacks, think of all the glorious wins your missing out on, stupid...

2. Unfair Matchmaking

Unfair matchmaking may be a bit of a harsh term but when you get partied up with a lieutenant and his two simple minded thumb less guests against an organised team of Brigs and generals then you do wonder if Bungie is out to get you. The above picture was a game of BTB I played a while back, one of many times it has happened on my favourite playlist.
I remember coming against a party of 8 players who were ridiculously good. I promptly submitted negative feedback for being too good (I'm a pussy, I know) and went off to get some food. I came back about 15 minutes later to be partied against them again and to make the situation worse, four of my team-mates quit out in fear of their scary ranks. This would have been fine if they had just quickly won the game of Neutral Assault on Rats Nest but nooo they proceeded to destroy us for 20 minutes rather than just score the bomb and end the game.
I tried to fight back but there is not a lot you can do when you can barely get 3 steps off the spawn. The worst thing about the whole experience was the fact that I could not even give them negative feedback for being assholes...I'm sorry to say this but Why Bungie? Why? (I love you really guys <3)

1.Betrayers!!!

GRRAAGHHH!! Phew, got that out if my system. The above picture just invoked a wave of fury in me. Nothing worse in Halo then people betraying you for a power weapon that they were too slow to get their hands on. Is it my fault I'm faster than you? Did you ask for the weapon? No? Well piss off then! Its such a childish and immature act that completely ruins the game for the player that gets betrayed. If...sorry, when this happens to me, and it always does, I make it my number one mission to hunt the little bitch down and destroy him. I don't care about the weapon or if I get booted its purely an act of revenge. You cant beat the instant revenge of no scoping the team-mate who's trying to betray you, such a satisfying feeling.

Fell free to leave comments about your personal hates, I'm sure there are HUNDREDS I have missed!

Trade in Tribulations

Thinking of trading in a couple of games for Call of Duty World at War. I'm definitely trading in Halo Wars which breaks my only trade if completed code but I have really struggled to get into the game, I'm not a huge RTS fan but I did play alot of Red Alert in my youth as well as Age of Empires and even a little of Rome Total War. Its a good game but its just not a great RTS, its too simple. Does that make sense? The interface is good but there's just not enough buttons to facilitate what I want to do, I cant create armies or split my troops into small manageable units, I'm left with sending a massive chunk of troops around chasing objectives and enemies, its like watching little kids playing football. Its also too hectic, you never have time to breathe and build as the enemy keeps getting thrown at you wave after wave. I like the patience to build up and set up defenses but you cant really do that in this game. Its like they have made an RTS for the FPS fans, too much action not enough strategy.

Maybe I just don't like console RTS's, now that I think about it I have owned a few and traded them in without finishing them, all my favourites are on the old PC. I think I'm just going to blacklist RTS's on the Xbox from now on. I probably would not have bought it if the Mythic map pack was not included.

So Game said they would give me 25 quid for it which is quite good for Game, shame I have to give my ODST drinks coaster away :(

I love all the freebies you get with limited edition games so it is a little bit of a pain to trade but needs must.

The other game I'm going to trade is Fable 2 which I also am having pangs of doubt about. Since listening to the Hi-score podcast today and hearing about the interesting new DLC which is planned I'm slowly coming round to not trading it. Props have to go out to 8bitjoystick as well for trying to convince Lionhead to give me some free DLC, Yeah, it might happen and monkeys might fly out of my butt! (cookie to whoever spots the reference). But if I dont trade these games then I do not get COD5 which looks really good. Played the co op story on split screen with a friend and really enjoyed it but I want to play it on SP and experience it for myself with the added missions. I think I would have bought this game if the Multiplayer beta was not so disappointing. Alot of people who shared my hatred have said that the MP is much better than the beta suggested. Is it?

So its a bit of a 50 50 the now on whether or not I'm going to trade but check back tomorrow and you'll find out. I might give it one more week to decide...hmmm.

Peasants Quest

Spent a few hours playing around on homestarrunner.com this morning. Had a large chuckle on the text adventure games and the StrongLibs before coming across the fun little puzzler that is Peasants Quest, I know im like 4 years late on finding this but I dont care. You play a peasant called "Rather Dashing" who is off to seek revenge on the dragon thing called Trogdor who burned your cottage to the ground. Much hilarity ensues as you need to become more of a peasant to gain entry to the Dragons lair. You have to find a way to smell and look like a peasant as well as catch fire...interesting. Theres some great references to old games and movies hidden away in here including a nice little zelda animation. See if you can spot it for yourself when you play the game.

Simple game in principle but you need to stretch your brain muscles to get around some of the puzlles. For every complication there is an amusing little way around it. I had a good laugh throwing the baby around.

I did get stuck on one occasion but I used this handy little guide to help me past it. If you have not played this then off you go and get stuck in.

Skate 2 Patch

A pretty good list of improvements here...

-Improve responsiveness of off-board controls, modified left stick behaviour to improve feel of off-board movement

-Eliminate scoring exploit for Hippie Jump 180s in multiplayer Spot Battle

-Eliminate the wipeout exploit with off-board and the Superdude trick

-Fixed mute and stale grab tricks to use proper hand when performed in conjunction with a hand gesture

-Fix the occasionally popping of visual indicators (sign-ups, arrows, etc)

-Added support for custom soundtracks for the PS3

-Face and Body settings will now load properly in saved replays

-Character models will be in high detail when viewing a replay

-Visual indicators (sign-up icons/arrows) are no longer visible in replays and videos

-Remove the confirmation pop-up when retrying a challenge

-Reduce potential for pedestrians to spawn in an active challenge location

-Modified "Can you spell Girl?" challenge so the player starts with the lead

-Remove the 3,2,1 countdown when retrying a film challenge

-All Thrasher challenges unlock properly in the career progression

-When starting an Own the Spot via the Challenge Map, the player’s session marker is automatically set for them

-Updated the online mini-map so skaters appear as the same color indicated in the player HUD

-Improved quality of character images generated for display on skate.reel web profiles

-EXP is no longer awarded for players that don’t attempt a trick during a Ranked game of S.K.A.T.E.

-Modified deathrace intro sequences to eliminate camera clipping

-Online Freeskate Activities (Survival) - Increase the tolerance for ‘skating too slowly’ while in the air

-Online Spot Battle/Hall of Meat - Spectators can again trigger hand gestures during another player’s turn

I'm so happy they have removed the bail glitch as it spoiled the Hall of Meat online mode, nothing more frustrating than glitchers on ranked matches. Other interesting update is the fact that you start with the lead on "Can you spell Girl" challenge, might be able to do this challenge now!! Exciting!!

Shame they did not fix the glitch that I just blogged about, grrr...

Are you an Active Skater?

Got this lovely little achievement earlier today, well I did not get it first try. There's a little glitch with this achievement if you have downloaded any of the new content from the marketplace. When I completed the last challenge there was no little exciting bleep bloop from my TV. Luckily my partner in Skate related crime had been through the same thing, all you have to do is delete the content off your HD then reboot the game and compete one challenge and you should be greeted with 20 hard, yet enjoyably earned gamer points. I can honestly say that this has been one of my favourite achievements on the Xbox so far. I only have 40 more points to get on Skate 2 to get the full 1250, I'm not sure if i'm going to get them though, I hate S.K.A.T.E challenges.

Oh almost forgot to say, Bungie have announced the marketplace release date of the Mythic maps, 9th of April is the glory day for all you excited little people.

One night and a lot of games...

Last night was a great night for gaming. Started out by testing the multi player Peggle which is great. There's the dual mode where each player takes a shot and the one with the most points at the end wins. This is pretty good fun especially when you pull off a last minute come back by clearing the table and landing a big bonus shot. There's an achievement available here called Rock Lobster which is pretty easy to get, all you have to do is win with the flippers on, took me a few goes to get though.

The next mode is where the fun really is, Peggle Party! 4 player Peggle where you have ten balls each to get as many points as possible. The best thing about this mode is the fact that you can view your opponents screens and check out there ridiculous shots. You get an achievement for winning a round, took me a little while but I had great fun getting it. Peggle is the most addictive arcade game I've played since the days of Marble Blast Ultra and Sonic, lost so many hours playing those games.

Anyway after playing this I ventured onto the fairways and struggled through a few more holes on Tiger Woods, got the achievement for winning my first major. My friend accused me of cheating as I made it a 2 day event, pffft, I don't play golf so its not cheating to me. Just got a lend of TW09 on Monday and I've been playing it non stop, its so addictive. I have not played a golf game since PGA Tour 97 back on my parents 2.5 gig PC...good times.

The highlight of the night was still to come as I jumped on Skate 2 with a friend to do some more of the freeskate activities. My good friend Billy has completed them all so he was helping me finish off the last half that I have to complete. After doing two or three he invited in a friend from another forum and we smashed through a ton of challenges including the horrid trick list in the SV stadium. Its been so long since I had a good laugh with someone new on Live. Party chat does turn you into a bit of a recluse, especially on Halo where the majority of people are abusive little idiots.

So all in all a very good day on the old Xbox; achievements, laughter and new friends, is that not what Live is all about?

Wednesday 18 March 2009

Where art thou?

Been a little bit AFK as of late. Life got in the way and then I just lost my creativity for a little while. Got a ton of things that I wont to blog about while I have been away. I'm not going to stuff them into one long word heavy wall of text, instead I'll try and post a couple of blogs a day again. I need to try and use this more as a diary and ramble about life as well as just games...although games pretty much take up my entire life.

Recently I have been playing a wealth of different titles from Peggle to Call of Duty 5. So many good games to play but not enough money to buy them all. Grrr.

If you actually want to hear what I have to say the please follow me on Twitter as I use it pretty regularly. You can catch my latest updates in my little Twitter widget ---->

Mythic Map Pack Review

Strybe was nice enough to ask me to guest write a review on the Mythic map pack. You should head straight over to high-score.co.uk and check it out. In fact Ill make it easier and give you the link, hope you like it!

No Mythic for me...

Did not get Halo Wars a day early as I hoped but not long to wait. Only one of my regular Halo friends has it so far so at least I can play with them tonight. Tomorrow I have a whole day of Mythic madness planned, I'm talking lots of snacks, takeaway and the odd beery beverage, I truly cant wait!

If you too cant wait then check out this video of Assembly from the lovely lads at Roosterteeth

Wednesday 25 February 2009

2 Days and Counting...

...until the Mythic map pack is out! Are you excited? I am! Sorry I've been out of action for a little while, had a cold that's been sapping my creativity. Been sitting on my couch watching far too much TV and playing Halo, even that's been a struggle.

Pre ordered my copy of Halo Wars yesterday and hoping that it will come on Friday morning at latest, Thursday would be nice though. I cant wait to get to grips with the new maps, as amazing as Sandbox looks the map I am really excited about is Orbital. It looks great for CTF and slayer, kind of reminds me of Rats Nest.

I have been asked to do a review for Hi-Score so expect to see my review there next week. Got to give my self the weekend to digest the maps and destroy some new Halo3 achievements. For those of you who have not discovered this site then you should head over and check it out.

Muchos Gaming.

Not blogged since Thursday, eek, been busy playing lots and lots of xbox. Played the Skate 2 DLC, Beowulf, Halo Wars demo and a large amount oh Halo3 so lots and lots of reviewing to do.

Skate 2 DLC

For 400 MS points you can pick up Rob Dyrdeks Fantasy 'Factory and a 50 possible achievement points. The skate plaza is based on a real area from Rob Dyrdeks reality TV show which I have never heard of, must not be on TV on this side of the pond. Here's a photo of the real thing as I could not get my hands on a shot of the in game version, from what I can see its an exact copy anyway.

There is some great lines and grinds on the park as well as a rooftop grind paradise, I'm talking ledge upon ledge where you can get amazing combos. If that's not enough there is a whole outside area with a lot of rails and jumps and lots of items to move around and create your own spots. You can also transition of the roof into a massive sewage pipe similar to the one in San Van which is ridiculous fun.

If you get bored of Freeskating there is a bunch of own the spot challenges which I killed with relative ease and a couple of tricky yet fun film challenges. I enjoyed the grind challenge in the park, shows you a couple of grinds that I would not have noticed myself. Once you do all of these there is a street contest in the park which will give you your final 25 point achievement. From the looks of the achievements EA will be releasing three more areas to skate, not sure how i feel about this as the cost will mount up, no doubt ill buy them anyway. I'm a sucker for DLC. Still two hidden achievements that I'm gonna have to look into.

But all in all if your a big fan of Skate 2 then these are definitely worth downloading, bring on more spots for me to murder!

More reviews to follow. ;)

Ignore the crazy font size at the top of blog, cant fix it...

Skate 2 gets DLC

A good friend passed this little link onto me today detailing a new Fantasy Plaza Park. Hopefully EA will keep up the DLC because God knows I'll be buying everything they bring out, nice if they brought some new locations and events from around the world. Anyway, here's the article...

"EA will expand Skate 2 today with Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Plaza.

This costs 400 Microsoft Points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80) from Xbox Live, and USD 4.99 from the PlayStation Store. We're not sure whether this will be available for European PS3 owners as the store hasn't been updated yet.

There are no elves, dwarves or naked ladies in this fantasy land, but a skateboarding haven created by Dyrdek (and shoe company DC), who happens to be a professional skateboarder. And an entrepreneur. And the star of his own reality TV show.

The Fantasy Plaza forms the centrepiece of Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory show for MTV, and has an appropriate amount of ledges, gaps and rails to do pointy-nosed up-turned roundabouts on.

Skate 2 launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 quite recently, and turned up sporting the acclaimed balletic strategy that made the series an instant hit. Head over to our Skate 2 review to find out more."

Shoping is fun...

...but not when your broke. Last night I bought two games from a site I found through Frugal Gaming's Twitter, really good site, going to save me a lot of money! The game I bought for myself was Beowulf, yes I know it will suck but for £3.99 you cant go far wrong. I also picked up Shadowrun for a friend for the same price. Kind of selfish because I love this game and I want to play it more, I'm sure he will like it too.

For those of you who have not played this game, you really should, its a cracking game. I played this game almost every night for the entire summer. I still dig it out now and again but not as much as it deserves.

Would have bought more but Halo Wars is out next week and I need my Mythic Maps, they look amazing. Been watching all the videos and viewing all the screen shots that are emerging from Bungie.net. If your a fan of Halo and have somehow missed these then you should get yourself across there and check it out. HBO has a post with all the write ups, you should seriously check this out.

The Quest for Brigadier Pt2

**RANT WARNING**

AGGGHHHHH...there, nice to get that out of the way. I just had the worst 3 games of Lone Wolves ever. For some reason there was only four players in the first game which was slayer on guardian. I started off great with a nice spree with the shotgun and even got my hands on the sniper before I was grenade spammed from about 3 different directions. I promptly dwindled and fell down the table after the promising start, bad respawns, coming against shotguns and getting my head sprayed across the wall from a sniper were the highlights. I had a little flourish at the end to come within five kills of the lead which was still the bottom of the godamned table. Four players with five kills spread between them and I go straight down a rank, not the best of stars.

Next game was slayer on the pit, which is usually a personal favourite of mine but I just could not get going in this game. Coming against ridiculous snipers and rockets were the theme for the first half of the game. I managed to get my hands on a sniper and catch up the top 4 players but I could not improve on this at all. I had my chances but the amount of times I'd be outBRing some guy when a nade fly's across from some fucking direction and steals the kill was unbelievable.

Last game made me throw things around the room. I'm not proud of it but it happened. I hate High Ground, one of my least favourite maps, especially for Lone Wolves. The spawns are ridiculous on it, almost as bad as Foundry. Bit of a mirror image of the last two games where I had nice little spree in the middle with the possible glimpse of a late win to get some awful respawns and luck right at the end.

I called it a day after that, blaming the "fucking yellow ping" that I often complain about. I wish Broadband companies would upgrade my connection, we've had bugger all for years now.

As soon as I get my Brig I'm gonna float off to my happy land of social gaming shenanigans never to be seen in the darkened lands of Lone Wolves ever again...although a 50 would be a possibility...

The Quest for Brigadier Pt1

Its been over 6 months since I got my Lone Wolves up to level 40 and I have been quite content to keep it there. I believe the rank should reflect my skill so did not want to push for 45 too fast but I feel the time is near to set the bar that little bit higher.

I must have played about 10 or so games this afternoon and I started off really well going up from 39 to 42 in five or six games, thought i was in for an easy ride...as if. Next game was against some really dodgy 2nd account generals so i was already unsure to the outcome but when Swords on Epitaph came up and no one vetoed, my heart truly sank. I have a very shitty connection, it must max on 2 meg on good days. Generally I have no trouble with it but when it comes to swords against people with high connections I fell like im on dial up. I know the melee block and lunge, I use it regularly but when I'm on yellow ping there is just no point even swinging, Id be better throwing the sword aside and trying to punch my way to a win. Safe to say I dropped my 42 after one game of having it. Sad face...

But then I went back up, then back down, then back up, then back down then finally in my last game I levelled at 42 and decided to call it quits. 39 40 41 42 41 42 41 42. Could have been worse. I think I can get my 45 though, I want those wings man!

Hopefully pt2 will be the final tale in the saga (saga? I wish).

GamerDNA

I found this fun little site today which some pretty clever quizzes on it. The first one I did was the Decade of Influence quiz which shows what era of gaming influenced the gamer you are today. I'm a modern gamer but I still love the retro games, was brought up on an amstrad and still own a few old consoles. Here's my results

I was a little surprised to be so uninspired by the 2000's though considering I'm an xbox live addict and play more games now than I ever did...but would I play them so much if it was not for my 90's SNES and N64 days.

Next test was about something very close to my heart, the FPS...drool...

I do agree with this result as I love to play objective and kind of take command of strategies and defence, I'm a nice boss though, honest.

What's your results? Take the quiz and leave a comment.

I KNOW THE PICS ARE TOO BIG FOR THE COLUMN! DAMN! CLICK THEM IF YOU WANT ALL THE INFO.

Rainbow Six Letdown

Played a few game of Halo with the old faithful cousin on guest, mixed bag of results. First game was great, CTF on Sandtrap, 2 flag scores and 25 kills, could not have gone better. After that i thought we were set up for a solid few hours of Halo related fun, until we played Valhalla and got paired with 3 team killers. A bunch of betrayals and 3 bootings later we got beat. No surprise really.

Next game saw us on One bomb on Avalanche which is my favourite map. I had good feelings about this one. Did not score the first round but i managed to lead an awesome defence which saw us hold them off until my team mate decided to move the hog that was blocking the teleporter...thanks. They scored with about 4 seconds left. Safe to say we got beat thanks to weak teammates, cant win them all though.

So after that 2 game bad run my cousin pulled out Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 which he picked up in town. Being an avid fan of Black Arrow and the first Vegas game i fired it up for some split screen action. First annoyance, vertical screen splitting, for the life of me I could not find the option to change this. Can you? Please help me, I prey I'm being stupid. After I got used to this we proceeded through the first two missions.

First mission was the usual skulk around save some hostages and kill some bad guys. In fact so was the second mission. And I presume so was the next 7 missions. I'm not saying its not fun its just not new. I felt like I was still playing the first game, the 2nd level saw me in a casino which i swear was in the first game. Total Dejavu! I mean the games ok but why would anyone spend 40 quid on it, I'm shocked that they actually released this as a game, it should have been DLC. Bad developers!

Anyway, hopefully have some more positive reviews soon. Just wait until I review skate ;)

Welcome to what I hope will be a well used blog. Ive tried before to start one but hopefully this will be different, hopefully i will use this one. Expect to read amusing views on the gaming industry, mixed in with random Internet finds and even the odd little story from my boring little life.

Just started using Twitter today so feel free to add me and read my updates, should be quite a few every day. Seems a good way to follow a lot of fellow bloggers and gamers. Already got a few followers there with a few more to come if things go well.

Anyway, my cousin is coming down any minute now for a bash on Halo so wish me luck, prey my K/D is positive!
